Nachos at El Maguey y La Tuna

8 08 2010

On the recommendation of Lee at www.nachosny.com we set off for an authentic experience in NY. We ended up crashing a 1 year old’s birthday! The food was top notch and the drinks were solid.

We split the ground beef nachos grandes with mole verde and an order of the Puebla mole chicken. Drinks were the jalapeño margarita and red sangria. Not pictured was also the white sangria which was a little sweet and the mango margarita which was awesome!

Thanks Lee!!

Enjoy!

Village Whiskey. Finally.

26 07 2010

after about a dozen tries to get in and being told the wait would be anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 1/2 hours, we finally got into to Jose Garces latest spot. (yes, i know its been open for a while and trust me we have tried!) the lovely hostess greeted us and let us know it would be about 45 minutes for a table. not having anything better to do on a Wednesday night at 830 we decided to tough it out. in the time it took us to get a drink and get comfy at the bar, the table was ready. it was less than 5 minutes!

we cozied up at a corner table at the front of the restaurant with a great view of everything going on. our server was helpful and the food was as incredible as we had heard. I started with a sangria and we split a blackened chicken cobb salad. (obviously the chicken was perfect. he is an iron chef for christsake!) we decided to get our own burgers, mine with grilled onions, hubs with blue cheese and grilled onions. and of course the duck-fat fries and cheese sauce.

everything came out in a reasonable amount of time. the meat temps were perfect. the service was fantastic. i have zero complaints!

The GM Robert was able to stop by and say hello. hes a great guy too and we will definitely be dining at VW again!

enjoy the foodporn!

Brunch eats at Royal Tavern

10 07 2010

One of hubs favorite burgers is from Royal Tavern. I’m no burger professional, but it is delish! This was our first time enjoying their brunch though.

Starting with $5 bloodys and mimosas is a good way to go! Also one of the summer specials is a white peach sangria. Perfect.

We ordered the following. Royal burger. Breakfast burrito. And special addition, crab, chorizo, bacon omelet.

Everything was excellent! Service was great. We will be back.

Hoof + Fin

6 07 2010

Hoof + Fin has a good concept of a BYOB with great food with warm and intimate atmosphere featuring mostly Argentinean fare.

The food is amazing!! And the company was outstanding!

I will say that the space is just a little too small. The dining room is too tight to have live music if you are trying to talk. This time we sat outside and it was a gorgeous night. Unfortunately the service was also on the slow side. (we waited an hour for our first courses!)

Here is some foodporn… enjoy!

Unfortunately we waited so long for dinner that it was too dark for the pic by the time it got there. 😦

Arent they cute?!?

Olive. A new spot.

6 07 2010

Christine has an awesome concept. A low-cost local spot with a menu that has something to offer everyone and desserts to make anyone’s mouth water.
